Tobi Amusan Sets New Record, Wins Silesia Diamond League 100m Hurdles
World Record holder, Tobi Amusan clocked 12.34 seconds to win the Silesia Diamond League Women’s 100m Hurdles and break the meet record in the process.
The race took place inside the Silesian Stadium, which is also the National Athletics Stadium, in Poland. The Stadium is a multi-functional facility that serves and plays host to various sports disciplines.
In a race that was quite tight, American Kendra Harrison came a close second after Amusan caught up with her in a nail-biting phot-finish.
The star-studded field saw newly crowned United States (US) champion Nia Ali coming third in 12.38s while Jamaican champion Megan Tapper finished fourth ahead of her compatriot Danielle Williams in fifth place.
For the Nigeria sprint icon, who equalled Jasmine Camacho-Quinn’s Meet Record (MR) in the event, her time is the fastest so far this season
The record breaking performance in Poland has now catapulted Amusan to the top of the Diamond League standings with seven points ahead of Camacho-Quinn, who for the first time, failed to participate in a Diamond League meeting this season.
Recently, she won the Diamond League meeting in Stockholm, Sweden and the Silesia’s victory makes it her second consecutive Diamond League win this season as she continues the build-up to a third successful title defence.
