BY ADEYEMI AKANJI, ABUJA – The village head of Sabon Layi Kwara in Bogoro Local Government Area of Bauchi State, ASP Daniel Salka (rtd) has been suspended from office and arrested by the police for allegedly killing his wife, Hajara.

The suspension which took effect from last Friday, was approved by the Chairman of Bogoro LGC, Hon Iliya Habila as part of measures aimed at returning peace to the area as well as safeguard lives and properties of the residents.

In a letter of suspension signed on behalf of the Council Chairman by the Director, Administration and General Services, Mr. Marcus Nehemiah, stated that the suspension is pending the outcome of investigation by the Police to determine the remote and immediate causes of the violence that led to the death of his wife.

It was gathered that the suspended traditional ruler, Mr Salka following a family dispute, beat his late wife, Mrs. Hajara to death on April 19, 2021 in the village.

Salka was subsequently arrested by the combined team of vigilante and DSS on April 26, 2021 in Bayara, a suburb of Bauchi where was said to had located to for cover.

Following his arrest, he was taken back to the village where the offence was committed and has since been handed over to the Police in Bogoro for necessary action.

Security operatives are said to be stationed in the village to avert further violence that may lead to more deaths while investigation is ongoing.

When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer for the Bauchi State Command, SP Wakili Ahmed said he was yet to get briefs on the matter since the report from Bogoro Division has not reached the Command.

SP Ahmed said; “I am not sure if the case has been reported at the homicide division of the Command. I am sure that by Monday, whatever is the situation, it will be known”.
