… Just As Army Kills Armed Robbers In Ibadan

BY VICTOR BUORO, ABUJA – Troops of Operation Lafiya Dole deployed at a Forward Operational Base in Benisheikh have uncovered a Boko Haram training camp where instructional training was provided to its foot soldiers.
A statement by the Deputy Director, Army Public Relations of Operation LAFIYA DOLE, Colonel Onyema Nwachukwu, stated that the troops uncovered the Camp located in a hideout in Afa general area on Sunday morning at about 9.30 am, following a tip off that insurgents were being trained in the hideout.
Nwachukwu said that armed with the information, troops immediately mobilised to the area where they conducted a cordon-and-search operation, adding that during the operation, troops encountered elements of Boko Haram insurgents who were withdrawing hastily from the camp.
According to Nwachukwu; “In the shootout that ensued, troops killed one of the insurgents and recovered one Dane gun. Troops also rescued one Mallam Abba, who was held hostage in the camp by the insurgents.”

The Army spokesman also said that the entire training camp has been destroyed by the gallant troops.

Meanwhile, the 2 Division, Nigerian Army troops in Ibadan has said that sequel to a distress call from residents of the area in the early hours of Monday, troops of Operation Burst, exchange fire in a shootout with the armed robbers.
The 2 Division of the Nigerian Army troops operating in an internal security operation nick named Operation Burst engaged in a shootout with a gang of six armed robbers in Iwo area of Ibadan, Oyo State.

A statement by the Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, Colonel HI Mohammed said that during the exchange of fire, two of the robbers were killed while three managed to escape just as one was captured with bullet wounds.
Mohammed said there was no casualty on the side of the troops, adding that during the operation, four locally made pistols, a laptop and nine mobile phones among other items were recovered.
Mohammed said efforts are on to track down the escapee robbers.
