Troops, Hunters Foil Terrorists’ Attempt To Destroy TCN Tower In Yobe
An attempt to blow up a tower of the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) on outskirts of Damaturu, Yobe State capital has been successfully foiled by a combined team of the Nigerian Army troops and some local vigilantes.
Reports indicated that troops of the Combat Team (CT) 7 of 27 Task Force Brigade joined forces with hunters group to thwart the moves by the criminal elements to blow up the power station located around Kasesa village in the North-East state.
Acting Assistant Director Army Public Relations Headquarters Sector 2 Damaturu, Captain Shehu Muhammad, who briefed newsmen on the development, said following credible intelligence on Boko Haram activities, troops swiftly laid a successful ambush on the terrorists.
Captain Muhammad said the terrorists abandoned a Toyota Corolla, 8 prepared Improvised Explosive Devices (IED), detonating cables, 2 damaged tyres as well as trade test card/certificate after the troops brought heavy volume of fire on them.
According to him, the Commander Sector 2 Operation Hadin Kai Brigadier General MCE Ejike, commended the good people of Yobe State for providing timely and useful information that continue to aid the troops’ operational success in the area.
He further quoted Brigadier General Ejike as urging “the general public to remain vigilant and continue to provide useful information to security agencies in the state as well as report any suspicious movement or persons around them timely.”
