Troops Rescue Abandoned Abducted Victim, Intensify Hunt for Kidnappers

Following sustained search and rescue operations, the troops of 6 Brigade, Nigerian Army under Sector 3 of Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS), have rescued a kidnapped victim.

The troops which carried out the operations within their Area of Responsibility, ensured the fulfillment of the resolve to dismantle criminal networks and protect lives.

The rescue operation was carried out by the troops on Tuesday, January 27, 2026 at Dogon Gawa, Taraba State, during which the troops acting on aggressive search efforts, sighted a man who was later identified as Mr Ghali was abandoned in the bush by his captors.

Findings from investigations so far carried out indicated that Ghali and one other person, Mr Simon Oluchukwu, were abducted on January 11, 2026 at Gbise Village, Mbayonga, in Benue State.

During the abduction attack, the victims’ driver was reportedly killed by the kidnappers.

Ghali shortly after his rescue, was immediately debriefed by troops, provided with necessary medical attention and reunited with his family.

Commenting on the successful operation, the Commander, 6 Brigade, Nigerian Army and Sector 3 OPWS, Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, commended the troops for their courage, tenacity and professionalism in the face of danger.

Uwa assured that the operations across the Brigade’s Area of responsibility would be further intensified to ensure the rescue of the remaining victims and the arrest of all the kidnappers.

The commander called on members of the public to continue to support ongoing military operations by providing timely and credible information to security agencies.

Uwa said that the latest success reflected the gallantry, professionalism and unwavering commitment of troops of 6 Brigade, Nigerian Army to the protection of lives and property.

Brigadier General Uwa reaffirmed the determination of the troops to sustain pressure on criminal elements, rid the area of kidnappers and restore lasting peace and security within the region.
