Troubled Days Ahead For Adamu, As Tinubu’s Men Move For His Ouster

For daring to question the nominations of principal officers of the National Assembly, some key political associates of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu particularly from Lagos have set in motion the process for the ouster of the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Abdullahi Adamu.

They have given Senator Adamu the option of quietly resigning from the exalted office of national Chairman of the APC or would be shown the way out.

Leading the anti-Adamu team are the former chairman of the APC in Lagos, Chief Henry Ajomale, and former party spokesman, Mr Joe Igbokwe.

Speaking in separate interviews with Daily Trust, the duo specifically queried what they described as the ‘audacity of Adamu’ in questioning the nominations of principal officers for the National Assembly.

Ajomale, who was the Lagos State chairman of the Alliance for Democracy (AD) before its merger with the APC, opined that the party’s main duty lies mainly with the nomination of presiding officers such as the President of the Senate, the Speaker and their deputies.

Speaking against the backdrop of the issues raised by Adamu stating that the party was not consulted and carried along in the appointments of principal officers of the National Assembly which are strictly party positions, Ajomale said that such positions are the internal affairs of the National Assembly to so select within themselves those they so desired to occupy the positions since the members know themselves better than the party knows them.

In his words; “I think the principal offices are supposed to be internal affairs of the National Assembly. So, that within themselves they can choose those who are going to occupy the principal offices because they know themselves more than the party.

Speaking in the same vein, Igbokwe, who served under Ajomale as spokesman of the APC in Lagos, said that the time has come for Adamu to resign or get kicked out of office since he could no longer be trusted.

Igbokwe, who once hailed former Governor Nyesom Wike for standing against his party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), in the 2023 general elections, however said that it was wrong for Senator Adamu to publicly dismissed the list of the principal officers which the president, who is the leader of the party, endorsed.

He noted that the APC national chairman openly showed during the primary of the Party in June 2022 that he could no longer be trusted when he attempted to foist the former President of the Senate, Ahmed Lawan on the party as its presidential candidate.

In the words of Igbokwe; “In all honesty, we cannot trust him again. He was managed in order for us to come out of the election. Now is the time to ease him out but, I know that Asiwaju knows what to do”.
