UBA Pensioners Protest Against Tony Elumelu Over Poor Pension Payments

Pensioners of the United Bank of Africa (UBA), have accused the Chairman of the Bank, Mr Tony Elumelu of being grossly insensitivity to their plight.

Some of the pensioners who embarked on a protest at the head office of the Bank situated in Marina, Lagos on Monday, demonstrated against what they described as “poor treatment” and therefore demanded a significant increase in their pensions.

The pensioners particularly said that 11 years running, the Management of UBA has deliberately refused to add N1.00 to their monthly pension and pointedly accused the chairman of the Bank, Mr Tony Elumelu of being the person that has refused to approve an increase.

The also lambasted Elumelu for his lack of empathy, saying that he has shown and displayed insensitivity to their plight,

Some of the pensioners were seen in the video protesting at the head office of the bank in Marina, Lagos on Monday during which they lamented over their poor treatment.

The pensioners also said that the majority of them (about 80%) earn between N10,000 and N15,000 per month, adding that in August, the Management of UBA offered an increase of 20% per month which translated to about N2,000:00. after so many months of disappointments.

In their words; “This is very insensitive of the Chairman of the Bank, Mr. Tony Elumelu and his team. We need the whole world to prevail on Mr. Elumelu to save the souls of these builders of the EMPIRE he is now enjoying by paying them a living pension”.

Findings indicate that the pensioners are demanding from the Management increase their payment to N70,000 minimum pension and medical.

The Management of the Bank which felt embarrassed by the protest, is yet to respond to the demands of the pensioners.
