UBEC Donates 19,000 Facemasks, Others To Nasarawa State

FROM AHMED TUKUR, LAFIA – To make the environment safe for returning pupils and students in Nasarawa State, the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) has donated 19,000 face masks and other COVID-19 protective items to primary schools across the state.

The Chairman, Nasarawa State Universal Education Board (SUBEB), Muhammed Dan Azumi, disclosed this while chatting with newsmen in Lafia, the state capital

The Nasarawa government had re-opened schools in the state on Monday, October 5, 2020 for all categories of Secondary and Primary schools.

Dan Azumi said the items would be distributed to the 1,411 primary schools across the state to protect pupils and safeguard them against the COVID-19 pandemic

Other items delivered to the state are 5,233 buckets and 2,822 cartons of hand sanitizers.

The chairman explained that each school will be given two cartons of hand sanitizers and three buckets while every pupil will be given a face mask.

“There is template from Federal Ministry of Education on how we should conduct our self for various schools both secondary and primary schools that has to do with the COVID-19 protocols”

He said the State has taken measures to ensure only qualified teachers are engaged while the Board collaborates with UBEC to ensure training and re-training of teachers and supporting staff.

“There is a directive from the Federal Government that schools should reopen based on each state’s readiness and even before the directive we were very much prepared”.

Dan Azumi also disclosed that all the schools have been fumigated to ensure a healthy environment for pupils before resumption, while assuring parents and other stakeholders of safe environment for the pupils and students.
