Ughelli Killings: Police Arrest 8 For Gruesome Murder Of Personnel


…Deepen investigations 

The Nigeria Police Force headquarters on Saturday said that personnel of the Force have made significant progress in the investigation into the tragic incident that occurred in Ughelli, Delta State on February 23 2023, where some officers on a fact finding mission were ambushed and murdered.

The Force also said that on February 26, 2023, some officers on a rescue mission were also ambushed, resulting in the death of six policemen with six others still missing in action.

The Nigeria Police said it is deeply saddened by the heinous act of violence against its officers who were diligently performing their duty to protect and serve the community.

A statement by the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, said that following intensive investigative efforts, the police have apprehended eight suspects in connection with the brutal ambush attack.

The Force spokesman also said that five suspects were earlier arrested shortly after the incident, and an additional three suspects now apprehended at different locations.

The police said that the latest arrest followed the statements and cooperation of the initially arrested suspects, thereby bringing the total number of arrests to eight suspects.

ACP Adejobi said that the arrested suspects who are currently in custody, are assisting with the ongoing investigation.

The statement further said; “The Nigeria Police Force is committed to ensuring that all those responsible for this reprehensible act, and many alike, are brought to justice swiftly and decisively.

“The Police assures that the suspects will soon have their day in court, with credible evidence, once investigations are concluded.

The police reiterate that killers of its officers in this extant case, and many others, have murdered peace, and none of them will go unpunished.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the families of the fallen officers during this difficult time,” the Force PPRO said.
