UNICAL VC, Prof Obi Okays Digital Profiles For Students
BY UBON EKANEM, CALABAR – In pursuit of her management’s digital education transformation agenda, the Vice-Chancellor, University of Calabar (UniCal), Professor Florence Obi, has approved the implementation of Intelligent Digital Identity System (IDID) and production of biometric-based intelligent identity cards for students of the institution.
According to her, the decision, which is in line with the management’s resolve to drive a digital education transformation, will ensure that every student has his or her digital profile captured on the school database.
A statement in Calabar by the University’s Registrar, Mr Gabriel Egbe, said; “Consequent on the decision taken, the IDID service team will be visiting the various academic Departments and Institutes, to digitally profile the students.”
The statement further explained that all students would be required to present themselves for the triple exercise of Personal and Demographic Data Capture (PDDC), Direct Digital Image Capture (DDIC), and Direct Biometric Data Capture (DBDC).
Prof Obi is also quoted as directing all Departments and Institutes to provide students’ information on excel spreadsheet while giving the University’s IDID team the “necessary cooperation” in order to carry out a “prompt and seamless exercise.”
