UNIMAID Investigates Fire Incident In Female Hostel

The University of Maiduguri (UNIMAID) authorities have regretted the inferno that engulfed the institution’s female hostel on Thursday, October 21, 2021 and confirmed no life was lost in the incident.

The Director Radio and Public Relations, University of Maiduguri, Professor Danjuma Gambo, expressed happiness that the minor incident was immediately brought under control.

Prof Gambo, who was responding to media enquiries on the inferno, said; “The fire affected just one of the rooms in the hostel while no life was lost or injuries”, adding that; “Preliminary investigations revealed that one of the female students was cooking when the unfortunate incident happened.”

He however explained that; “The university authority is currently carrying out an investigation to determine the cause of the fire.”

Information from eyewitness account indicate that the fire broke out at about 3:10pm in one of the hostel identified as Aisha Buhari Lodge.

And in the process, some of the students documents, clothes, hostel buildings and other property worth millions of Naira were destroyed by the raging fire.

According to reports, it was the prompt response of the University’s Fire Service team, with the aid of some female students in the hostel as well as security personnel, that greatly assisted in putting off the fire at about 4:10pm.

The reports said their prompt intervention effectively prevented the fire from further spreading to other parts of the hostels and wrecking more havoc. – With PRNigeria report
