Police draft officers to keep law, order in affected area
BY ADEYEMI AKANJI, BAUCHI – The Police Command in Bauchi State has confirmed the gruesome murder of two people by unknown assailants that invaded Gudum Hausawa, a suburb of Bauchi metropolis on Saturday.
One of the two victims was simply identified as Mallam while the second victim, a girl could not be easily identified.
The Bauchi Police Command in a statement by its Public Relations Officer, DSP Wakili Ahmed confirmed receiving the information on the killings, adding that investigations into the incident has commenced with a view to apprehend the killers as well as uncover the root cause of the murder.
DSP Ahmed however said the Police Commissioner, Lawan Tanko Jimeta has since on Saturday drafted armed Police personnel to the area to maintain law and order as well as to curtail any reprisal attack.
He however called on residents of the community to assist the Police in its investigation by volunteering useful information that may lead to the arrest of the killers and get to the root cause of the attack.
The PPRO announced that already, four people namely Haruna Isah Nbula (Ward Leader of Gudun Sayawa), Hassan Hilbash of Gudun Sayawa and Jonathan Ishaya of Rafin Lumba village in Tafawa /Balewa Local Government Area have been arrested for obstruction when Police personnel drafted to the area were denied initial access by the people.
DSP Ahmed said that as of the time of this report, normalcy has returned to the area as the Police personnel are keeping vigilance are parading the area.
However, our correspondent gathered on Sunday that the assailants numbering more than ten invaded the community on Saturday in a commando-like movement scaring residents away and at the end of the invasion, two people, a man and a young girl were found dead.
A resident of the community who spoke to our correspondent on condition of anonymity for security reasons, said the reason for the invasion is not yet known to the community, adding that though there was a minor misunderstanding among some people recently, no one can say if the invasion is linked to the issue.
He appealed to Governor Bala Mohammed to as a matter of urgency make necessary security arrangements for the community since the area is becoming notorious for such attacks
