- As Casemiro, Sesko gift Red Devils 2-1 victory over Brentford
- Skipper Bruno Fernandes shines again
Manchester United have one foot in next season’s Champions League, with Casemiro and Benjamin Sesko firing them to a massive 2-1 win against Brentford on Monday night.
No doubt, the energy at Old Trafford is now fever pitch with the club’s faithful excited they would not only hear but also joyfully sing the Champions League anthem in the nearest future.
The growing Red Devils faithful are making it clear: they have endured enough suffering and are firmly putting Portuguese Manager Ruben Amorim’s nightmare reign behind them.
Clearly focused on cementing a top-five spot, the Red Devils currently stay third in the Premier League table but now possess an 11-point lead over sixth-placed Brighton, meaning they have all-but secured a top-five finish and a ticket back to Europe’s top table for the first time in three years.
Amad Diallo had missed a sitter in the second minute after some beautiful footwork from Kobbie Mainoo. Sepp van den Berg blocked Ahmad’s shot blocked on the line and not long after, Harry Maguire saw his header clawed off the line by Caoimhin Kelleher.
Capitalising on United’s blistering start to the game, Brazilian midfielder and Champions League veteran, Casemiro rose higher to nod home his fourth goal in eight games as United took the lead under 12 minutes of play.
Coach Michael Carrick’s men were spared some blushes, thanks to two fine saves from Senne Lammens that keep out a pair of potential own goals by Ayden Heaven. Sesko then gave the hosts a two-goal cushion right before half-time, providing a simple finish as Bruno Fernandes laid the goal out on a plate for the Slovenian.
The United captain’s performance on the night took him to 19 assists for the season, just one shy of Kevin De Bruyne and Thierry Henry’s joint-Premier League record of 20 assists.
United were comfortable for most of the second half, although an 87th-minute strike from Mathias Jensen made for a nervy finish before the full-time whistle came.
