Uproar Over Reps Member Display Of Cash Amid Hunger, Hardship, Poverty
The arrogant display of wads of cash by a member of the House of Representatives from Kano State, Hon. Aliyu Sani Madaki, has attracted criticisms and anger in the midst of severe hunger, poverty and economic crunch in the country.
Madaki’s display of raw cash running into millions of Naira was captured in a video that has gone viral in the social media showing him with the stacks of cash in his living room.
The lawmaker representing Dala federal constituency on the platform of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) at the National Assembly, openly displayed wads of N1,000 Naira notes stacked in a pile alongside two other unknown individuals.
The development has drew the ire and disapproval of citizens particularly against the backdrop of the present economic challenges the people are grappling with and barely making ends meet.
Many citizens took to the social media, particularly X and expressed anger and disappointment, describing Madaki’s action as insensitive and tone-deaf to the everyday struggles faced by majority of Nigerians.
With cash scarcity still impacting daily life, a social media user, Pure Stanley, questioned how Madaki accessed such a large amount of cash in relation to banks’ limit to the amount a customer can withdrawal.
Stanley wrote; “Almost all the banks in Nigeria are not dispensing more than N20-50k to their customers, yet Aliyu Madaki has over N50-80 million in cash at his house.
“How? Which bank dispensed the money to him? And what does he want to use the money for? These are the kinds of people occupying our wheels of power and steadily impoverishing this country,” he enthused.
Similarly, Allpower belongtoGod said; “I swear these people are the reason we don’t see cash anyhow again. Just imagine, and poverty in that region is extremely high oo!”
“I don’t believe Aliyu Sani Madaki can say this huge amount of money is for constituency project,” he said.
In his own comment, Engr Y G, said the development raised serious concerns about accountability and service saying; “It’s alarming to see politicians like Aliyu Sani Madaki in office, raising questions about accountability and transparency.
“This image of him surrounded by cash is sparking outrage, wondering how he intends to account for these funds”.
Also making remarks on the sad development, BABBA AGK wrote; “There is the need to ask for the source of the funds and purpose it is intended for?”.
