Ahead of his being officially declared as the next American President, Democratic candidate for the US Presidency, Joe Biden, has launched an official transition website, www.buildbackbetter.com.

Though votes are still being counted in some states and the presidential race still undecided, this move comes as the former Vice President and Senator edges closer to ousting President Donald Trump from the White House.

The ‘Biden-Harris Transition’ site went live in the hours after the November 3 election, despite votes still being counted in what is a much tighter race than polls had predicted.

The www.buildbackbetter.com website has a short statement that reiterates Biden’s earlier assertion that it is the American people that will decide who becomes the next U.S. President.

“Votes are still being counted in several states around the country. The crises facing the country are severe — from a pandemic to an economic recession, climate change to racial injustice.

“The transition team will continue preparing at full speed so that the Biden‑Harris Administration can hit the ground running on Day One,” the statement said.

Speaking earlier, Biden, who is also a former US Vice President, said it was clear that he had won “enough states to reach 270 electoral votes to win the presidency”.

“I’m not here to declare that we’ve won, but I am here to report when the count is finished, we believe we will be the winners,” he said.

And while the Republican incumbent President Trump is considered to have quickly sown the seeds of doubt, claiming electoral fraud, the Democrat Biden’s camp remains confident of a narrow victory.

The one-page site, using the URL buildbackbetter.com, emphasises that the “American people will determine who will serve”, contrasting the signals coming from Trump, who is threatening court action, after wrongly suggesting counting mail-in ballots is illegal.

Already, an angry Trump campaign team has unleashed a long-planned legal offensive, demanding votes’ recount in Wisconsin and calling for the count in Michigan to be halted on the grounds that its representatives did not have “meaningful access”.

Also, dozens of Trump supporters chanted, “Stop the count!” inside the TCF Center in Detroit, where ballots were being handled, while the president tweeted: “Our lawyers have asked for ‘meaningful access’, but what good does that do?

“The damage has already been done to the integrity of our system, and to the Presidential Election itself. This is what should be discussed!”  – Agency reports
