Utomi To Akpabio: Learn To Shut Up

Professor Pat Utomi on Friday took the President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio to task over his unguarded utterances without caution and respect for the office he occupies.

Akpabio recently said that unverified reports stated that the Federal Government through the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), disbursed N30 billion each to the States of the federation to help address the economic hardship in the country.

But, Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State countered Akpabio, saying that there was no such disbursement, saying that the President of the Senate spoke out of the figment of his imagination and advised him to stop lying to the nation.

Taking a cue from Governor Makinde, Professor Pat Utomi pointedly told the Senate President, Akpabio to shut up and stop embarrassing his exalted office and the country.

Utomi, who expressed displeasure over Akpabio’s claim when he featured on Arise Television News on Thursday, said; “Somebody should tell Apkabio to shut up, if he doesn’t know what to say, he should shut up.”

The professor of Economics particularly bemoaned the behaviour of some Nigerian politicians that have refused to respect their positions and careless about the feelings of the citizens through their ungauged utterances.

In the words of Utomi; “Politicians have acted irresponsibly as far as the future of Nigeria is concerned. The politicians are the mess that Nigeria is suffering. We have got to make them realize that.

“Nigerian politicians should invest Nigeria’s resources in production for the betterment of the people.

“They should get out of these funny Mercedes and SUVs they are buying and go around in some small car.

“Let us use the resources of this country for production and get the people of Nigeria to be able to feed themselves and make progress,” he said.

Utomi recalled his experience under former President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration, saying that long before Buhari’s cabinet was formed, he gave an analysis of how the government will likely end up and it happened.

He stressed that the problem remains the fact that Nigerians were so patient with the Buhari-led government that they allowed him to ruin the country.

In his words; “We must stop this patience business. Governments respond to stimuli from the environment”.
