Governor Hope Uzodimma will fly the All Progressives Congress (APC) flag as its candidate for the Imo West Senatorial District come 2027 general election.
To pocket the ruling party’s ticket during the primary election held on Monday at the Orlu Local Government Secretariat, Uzodimma dusted former Imo State Governor, Owelle Rochas Okorocha by a landslide margin.
Announcing the results, Rear Admiral Williams Kayoda, Chairman of the Imo State Primary Election Committee, said Uzodimma polled 230,464 votes, while Okorocha garnered 1,098 votes.
Governor Uzodimma had previously represented Imo West Senatorial District in the Senate from 2011 to 2019 before he was elected Imo State Governor in 2020.
The victory signals his intention to return to the National Assembly after completing the second and final term as governor. His current tenure as governor will end in January 2028.
The Imo West Senatorial District, also known as Orlu Zone, is one of the three senatorial districts in Imo State and remains one of the most politically influential zones in the state.

Incumbent Senator, representing Kebbi Central, Muhammad Aliero, has also been affirmed by APC as its candidate for the 2027 polls.
The Kebbi Central event held at Haliru Abdu Stadium in Birnin Kebbi, saw the Chairman of the Affirmation Committee and Chief of Staff to the Governor, Attahiru Maccido, requesting delegates to ratify Aliero’s candidacy through a voice vote.
The delegates responded with overwhelming approval, formally affirming the former governor as the APC candidate for Kebbi Central.
Prominent party leaders and stakeholders attended the event, including Governor Idris; Kebbi APC Chairman Abubakar Kana Zuru; and the APC House of Representatives candidate for the Jega/Aliero/Gwandu Federal Constituency, retired Comptroller-General of the Nigerian Correctional Service, Ahmad Jafar Jega.
Similarly, Major-General Jafar Gajere (rtd), a newcomer to elective politics, was affirmed as the flag bearer following incumbent senator, Garba Musa Maidoki’s resignation from the ruling party. The retired Army General emerged as the consensus candidate for the Senate seat in Zuru.
Also, Senator Yahaya Abdullahi, who represents Kebbi North, got the party’s ticket to seek another term after he was affirmed as the consensus candidate during the primary election held in Argungu on Monday.
The three candidates emerged through a consensus arrangement facilitated by Kebbi State Governor Nasir Idris as the ruling party conducted its nationwide senatorial primaries ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Addressing journalists after the exercise, Senator Aliero pledged renewed commitment to effective representation of his constituents, stressing the importance of addressing insecurity across the state.
While describing security as the bedrock of meaningful development, Senator Aliero also commended Governor Idris for providing material and logistical support to security agencies, saying the intervention had strengthened their operational effectiveness.
He expressed confidence in the APC’s electoral prospects in Kebbi State, stating that the party remains united and well-positioned to record a sweeping victory in the 2027 elections.
The lawmaker said APC leadership in the state remains committed to improving the welfare and living conditions of residents. Following the party’s House of Representatives primaries conducted over the weekend, the APC senatorial primaries were held across the country on Monday.
Meanwhile, with the disqualification of several aspirants, and strategic withdrawals by others, the primaries have so far recorded a number of significant developments nationwide, especially as intense rivalries by various interest groups and local factions are clashing fiercely over who secures the ultimate backing for the 2027 polls.
