We ‘ll Storm Abuja National Convention United — Edo PDP Vows
Despite the clearly visible cracks within its ranks, the Edo State Chapter of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has vowed to attend the Party’s National convention this weekend in Abuja, the nation’s capital, as a united family.
Coming on the heels of accusations and counter-accusations as well as suspension of some members accused of anti-party activities, the state chapter said there is no cause for alarm as the party remains intact in Edo State.
According to the Party’s State Publicity Secretary, Chris Nehikhare, all its elected national and statutory delegates are fully prepared for the Convention to elect new national executive members for the nation’s main opposition party.
Briefing newsmen in Benin on the Chapter’s preparedness for the convention, Nehikhare said; “And the first step we will be taking is to elect the new executive during the convention. An executive that will pilot the party to victory come 2023.
“In doing that, the party a couple of days ago unveiled the convention logo, slogan, and theme with the title: ”Come let’s rescue Nigeria together”.
“It is our umbrella covering over Nigeria, and you know our umbrella is big enough to accommodate all manners and shades of people for the common good of the country.”
Nehikhare said the PDP is focused on having a country that boasts of security for its citizens; a vibrant economy; affordable living standards and healthcare; and education which remains key to sustainable development for the country.
The Chapter spokesperson further said; “So the clarion call for Nigerians to come and join hands with the PDP to rescue the country cannot be done at a better time than now.
“That is why we want everybody to join hands to rescue Nigeria, because doing nothing, changes nothing. We all have to understand that Nigeria is our country.”
On the zoning arrangements for the national convention, Nehikhare explained that the position of Deputy National Youth Leader has been zoned to Edo State just as other national positions were also zoned to other states to ensure all interests are fairly represented within the Party.
He stated that the State chapter had already taken a decision and picked a consensus candidate in the person of Timothy Osadolor to occupy the office.
