BY AMOS TAUNA,KADUNA – Residents  of Chikun and Kajuru Local Government Areas of Kaduna State on the auspices of Southern Kaduna Concern Political Forum, have warned that the All Progressives Congress (APC), may loose the 2019 elections if the party imposed unpopular candidates that have no electoral value during the party primaries in state.

Kaduna State is among the states that will employ indirect mode of conducting their primaries in spite of various allegations by some aspirants who strongly opposed the system of electing flag bearers of the party ahead of the 2019 general elections.

The residents, who are APC members based in Kaduna Central Senatorial zone that include, Kaduna North, Kaduna South, Birnin-Gwari, Igabi, Chikun, Kajuru and Giwa Local Government Areas said APC must thread with caution by not fielding unpopular and inaccessible candidates for the 2019 general elections.

The residents said the only way a credible candidate could emerge without controversies and disenchantment is to adopt the direct mode of primary election.

Speaking to newsmen after an emergency meeting that took place in Kujama, Kajuru Local Government Area to decide on candidate to vote for during the 2019 general election, Chairman of the forum, Mr. Friday Jagudo, said any attempt to field any candidate outside Senator Shehu Sani would be seriously resisted.

He further said; “As members of Chikun and Kujuru Local Government Area, we have studied and followed the activities of Senator Shehu Sani in the hallowed red chamber and we are satisfied with his quality representation.

“We see no reason, why a good and grassroots politician, such as Senator Shehu Sani should be denied the right to represent us again, especially with our PVCs and are ready to return him to the Senate.”

While urging APC to consider merit and performance, the chairman also said; “Senator Shehu Sani has imparted on the lives of many people in the zone especially the downtrodden and should be given another chance to return to the Senate for improved standards of living of the people.

“What should be of paramount importance to the party is how to win and retain the seat during the elections.

“The defection of Senator Suleiman Hunkuyi of Zone 1 to the opposition party and zone 3 already in their hands, the major focus of the party is how to retain the seat and the only sure option is Shehu Sani.

“We resolved to take our complaints and decision to the public as well as our dismay over the plot to replace our Senator with another aspirant through indirect primaries that may not be transparent and not in our interest.

“We have testified to the fact that Shehu Sani has performed very well and we want him to come back to continue the good work he has started for the common man.

“We are calling on the National Chairman of our great party, Comrade Adam Oshiomhole to intervene in this matter or we will embark on a protest vote if the state leadership imposed any unpopular candidate on us.”
