BY UBON EKANEM, CALABAR – With the days counting down fast, the Cross River State Government (CRSG) says there is no compromise in its resolve to deliver the most spectacular Calabar Carnival ever this year.

Accordingly, the government has assured fun seekers, carnival enthusiasts, and the public to expect a grand and vibrant festival that would see them enjoying the Yuletide session in a thoroughly unforgettable fashion.

Governor Bassey Otu made the promise while flagging off the 3rd Carnival Calabar Dry Run as final preparations for the highly-anticipated event reach a crescendo at the weekend.

He expressed confidence that a memorable experience awaits the people in an impressive lineup of colorful parades, musical performances, cultural displays, and other festivities that have cemented the Carnival’s reputation as Africa’s largest street party over the years.

Governor Otu, who was represented by the Deputy Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Hon. Sylvester Agabi, urged residents and visitors to excitedly and fully participate in the upcoming festivities, even as he stressed the Carnival’s role in boosting tourism and showcasing Cross River State’s all-round rich heritage.

On the government’s plans to ensure a smooth, hitch-free and successful Carnival, the Governor further assures that; “adequate security measures and logistics have been meticulously planned to ensure a seamless celebration”.

Also speaking at the event, Chairman of the Cross River State Carnival Commission (CRSCC), Mr. Gabe Onah, said in line with this year’s theme; ‘Our Shared Prosperity,’ the 2024 Carnival Calabar and Festival has been carefully planned to offer visitors, viewers, and the general public an extraordinary experience in delivery performance.

He also confirmed that appropriate safety measures are in place to address any untoward incidents that could arise as the participating bands traverse the 12-kilometre Carnival route to deliver world-class entertainment to all fun lovers and tourists across the globe.

Meanwhile, a statement by Nsa Gill, the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, reminded the public that this year’s Carnival Calabar and Festival activities began on Sunday, December 1, 2024, with the symbolic lighting of the towering Christmas tree at the Calabar Cenotaph by the Governor, preceded by the walk against HIV/AIDS as well as the official opening of the Christmas village.

He said it has been excitement galore as tourists and fun seekers from across Nigeria and around the world continue to storm the ancient Canaan City and “Nigeria’s first capital (Calabar) to savour the mirthfulness that characterizes the Carnival Calabar and Festival.”
