Former Minister of Communications, Adebayo Shittu, has called out female ministers currently serving in the President Bola Tinubu-led administration for dressing like beauty pageant contestants.

Shittu said government functionaries should take public offices with seriousness, maintaining that dressing like beauty pageant participants wrongly conveys to the public frivolous conduct and a self-indulgently carefree attitude by those involved.

Speaking during an interview on Channels TV’s programme, Politics Today, Shittu, who served under immediate past President Muhammadu Buhari from 2015 to 2019, said; “I’m happy that President Tinubu appointed a number of female ministers but my impression whenever I see them on television is as if they are going to beauty competitions based on the type of dresses they wear.”

The former Minister’s comments came against the backdrop of Mr President’s address at the opening of a three-day retreat for ministers, political appointees, and top government officials where he warned that Ministers who do not perform on their assignments will be shown the way out of the administration.

Shittu further said all ministers must demonstrate that they are serious about the business of governance and effective service delivery, adding; “I think there is a need for us (APC) as a government to show more seriousness in the assignments that we have in this government”.
