A sibling of Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mr Kingsley Kanu has said that his brother was arrested in Kenya.

This is as he urged the British High Commission in Nigeria to insist upon Nnamdi’s immediate release and should guarantee his safety and security.

In a statement on Wednesday, Kingsley Kanu said the IPOB leader was detained by the Kenyan authorities until he was extradited to Nigeria.

He pointedly said that he demand justice for his brother Nnamdi Kalu, who he stressed has been subjected to extraordinary rendition by Kenya and Nigeria.

Kingsley Nnamdi said; “Foreign Secretary Raab must be clear. There will be consequences for those who resort to extraordinary rendition. The British Government must insist upon justice for Nnamdi Kanu”.

He specifically accused Kenya and Nigeria of having violated what he described as “the most basic principles of the rule of law,” adding that “extraordinary rendition” is one of the most serious crimes states can commit.

In the words of Kingsley Kanu; “Both Nigeria and Kenya must be held to account. I demand justice for my brother, Nnamdi Kanu.

“My brother Nnamdi Kanu demands the right to self-determination for Biafra. Self-determination is the right to that underpins of the United Nations.

“Because Biafrans support Nnamdi Kanu’s call for Biafran self-determination, my brother has now been subjected to the most serious violations of international law.

“Nnamdi Kanu must be returned home to the UK to his wife and his sons who live here. The Foreign Secretary, Dominic Raab, must make clear to the Nigerian authorities that they will not tolerate the unlawful detention of British citizens and that the UK Government condemns the Nigerian and Kenyan governments for undermining the rule of law,” he said.

The Federal Government has so far been silent over the county from where Nnamdi Kanu was arrested thereby giving room for speculations.
