BY AMOS DUNIA, ABUJA – The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Whistle blowing tactics took a different dimension on Wednesday as the Deputy President of the Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, on Wednesday accused the anti-graft agency of plotting to plant huge sums of monies in his Guest house in Enugu.

Ekweremadu, who came under personal explanation of the Senate Standing Rules, shocked most of his colleagues when he said that a Good Samaritan had conveyed the plot to him in a letter.

Forefront gathered that Ekweremadu had wanted to just distribute copies of the letter to his colleagues for their information, but was advised by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Caucus in the Senate to formally present it on the floor.

Ekweremadu, while reading the letter un personal explanation, said, ā€œI have on good authority in a letter from an unnamed ā€˜Good Samaritanā€™, that the EFCC plans to plant the money in different international currencies on my property in Enugu and then subsequently effect a raid.ā€

He further alleged that in the planned raid, operatives of the EFCC would recover other incriminating items; arms and ammunition of various shades and firepower.Ā Ekweremadu said from information available to him, the EFCC also plan to plant his portrait in the guest house to complete its ploy to rope him in.

According to him; ā€œOnce the plot is hatched; EFCC would arrest and detain me and that while in detention, a period which could take about three weeks, there would be series of protests asking that I should be recalled.

ā€œAccording to the tip-off letter, it alleged that a cabal in the Presidency is behind the plot to indict Senator Ekweremadu in order to weaken his political base and make it impossible for him to seek future political office in the country.

Part of the letter allegedly written to Ekweremadu reads in part; “The cabals in the Presidency target is to indict you and kill your political ambition so that you can no longer stand for any future elections and to show to the international community and Nigeria people that you senator Ike Ekweremadu is a corrupt politician.”
