BY AHMED TUKUR, LAFIA – The Chairman of the 2027 Governorship election of Senator Aliyu Wadada Project, Yakubu Kwanta, has alleged that former Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Adamu Abubakar, was sacked by the late former President Muhammadu Buhari as a result of incompetence.
Kwanta, who is also the Nasarawa State Commissioner for Works, stated this while reacting to the mass defection of members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state to the Social Democratic Party (SDP), a platform the former IGP contesting as a governorship candidate.
According to Kwanta, IGP Abubakar’s record of service would work against his ambition to govern Nasarawa State, just as he described some of the APC members defecting to the SDP as “moles” that have been working for the former IGP and contributed.
Kwanta also described some of those defecting from the APC to the SDP as “moles” who had been working for the former IGP and contributed little to the APC.
Several political appointees and prominent members of the APC in the state recently defected to the SDP in support of Abubakar’s governorship bid.
Among the key figures that defected was a former Deputy Inspector-General of Police (DIG), Mohammed Ari, whose defection to the SDP as evidence that the former DIG had remained loyal to his former boss rather than to the APC.
Kwanta also said that Nigeria witnessed the first-ever police strike during Abubakar’s tenure as IGP, stressing that the former police boss lacked the administrative skills and experience required to govern a state like Nasarawa.
The APC Governorship Campaign Chairman in Nasarawa State also recalled the number of police officers who died during Adamu’s tenure and the #EndSARS protests, saying the events remained fresh in the minds of Nigerians.
