Senator Aliyu Wadada, representing Nasarawa West senatorial district in the 10th Senate, has given reasons why he has resolve to dump the Social Democratic Party SDP), on which platform he was elected in 2023.

He pointedly declared that there was no way he can belong to the same political party with former governor of Kaduna State, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, saying that he does not share the political philosophy and ideas of El-Rufai, just as he also abhors his principles and approach to doing things.

Wadada specifically expressed disappointment that El-Rufai abandoned the APC for the SDP and not for any reason other that his inability to secure a ministerial position.

In the words of Wadada; “I don’t think I can stay with El-Rufai in the SDP, because he is not a principled politician.

“El-Rufai was once a staunch advocate for power rotation to the South and played a critical role in the emergence of President Tinubu, both as the APC flagbearer and ultimately the President.

“What changed in President Tinubu between the time El-Rufai supported him and now that he has defected to the SDP?” he asked.

Wadada described El-Rufai’s defection as purely driven by selfish interests, stressing that he cannot work with individuals who place personal ambition above the collective interest.

Senator Wadada however, acknowledged that there are serious economic challenges brought on by the removal of fuel subsidies, but expressed optimism that governments at all levels are making efforts to improve citizens’ welfare.

The lawmaker also noted that under the subsidy regime, only few individuals benefited, adding that following its removal, the funds are now being allocated directly to state governments for development projects.
