Why Kebbi APC should give Mallan ticket
BY UMAR MARADUN
When the news about the entrance of Alhaji Abubakar Malam into APC gubernatorial race in Kebbi state hit my ears, what came to my mind was that it is the time for the ex- customs boss to rule Kebbi state, in sha Allah.
Mallan, a retired DCG of the Nigerian Customs Service has been nursing ambition to rule Kebbi state immediately, after his bosom friend, Alhaji Muhammad Adamu Aliero.
But, as destiny has it, Malam was denied the ANPP ticket as earlier arranged and mutually agreed.
As he determined to join politics in order to contribute his quota in uplifting the living standard of Kebbi people, Malam clinched the ticket of the defunct Democratic People’s Party, DPP.
Malam, fondly known admirers as “Gari” was well prepared for the governorship having vast experience in governance, which is further enriched his philanthropic nature as recognised since his days in the Customs Service through his retirement, made it easier for the then DPP a new political party to gained ground in all nooks and crannies of Kebbi state.
As a firm believer in change and progress, Malam joined forces with President Muhammadu Buhari in Congress For Progressive Change, CPC, where he contested for the governorship ticket.
In fact, the people of Kebbi state, across the four emirates of Gwandu, Argungu, Yauri and Zuru can attest to the popularity of Abubakar Malam during his previous contests as masses demonstrated support for his candidature.
It is now time for Kebbi APC stakeholders to do the needful for the people by affording required support for the aspirations of Abubakar Malam candidature and endorse him for the governorship slot.
Kebbi state is too complex to govern, so the stakeholders in the APC ought to think of the best material who has been in the game of politics and conversant with the political intricacies.
As we know politics is all about the ability to deliver good governance to the electorate, especially in a state with high concentration of elites.
It is a known fact that the entire state was known for having all sorts of people in terms of modern means of governance.
Malam having reached managerial position in the Customs Service, has retired as Deputy Comptroller General, DIG as service he enlisted with a University degree.
The APC stakeholders in Kebbi state ought to think of a person with educational capacity and capability to approach governance.
Kebbi state as it is now with high with concentration of retired and serving military officers in Zuru emirate, with huge technocrats in Gwandu,, Argungu and Yauri emirate with quite number of academics need to have a person with sound educational background with vast experience in the scheme of things who can face any other candidate in the opposition.
Let’s make it clear that the sensitivity of Kebbi people calls for the APC to endorse the candidature of Abubakar Malam as its flag bearer even with easy response and acceptance by the electorate in all the 21 local government areas of the state.
It is just a matter of revival, as in all the 21 local government areas of the state, Malan has a formidable political structure right from his sojourn contest in the ANPP, DPP and CPC.
It was because of the love and confidence people have in Abubakar Malam that caused the breakaway of many of ANPP supporters during the second tenure of the former Governor Adamu Aliero to join Abubakar Malam when DPP gave him governorship ticket.
The trend continued up to the era of Buhari’s CPC, when Gari got the party’s gubernatorial ticket. So it’s time for the APC to think of having the most qualified aspirant in the APC to sail its ship.
