Former presidential candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), in the 2023 election, Prince Adewole Adebayo, has said President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s emergence as president of the Nigeria in remains a painful lesson from God to Nigerians.

Adebayo emphasised that Nigerians must not mistaken Tinubu’s presidency for divine favour, but should see it as a wake-up call to embrace justice and reject divisions.

He said that until Nigerians learn a lesson from the Tinubu presidency, there is nothing the world can do, thus urged Nigerian leaders to speak out against injustice abroad as well as at home.

Adebayo, who stated these at a Ramadan Iftar organized by the AAFAQ Foundation in Kano at the weekend, noted that four years ago, when he was in the city of Kano campaigning for the president of Nigeria, he knew that God wanted to teach Nigerians a lesson.

He said that he pointedly told Nigerians then that they would eventually realize the futility of Tinubu’s presidency.

In his words; “Almighty God (Allah) does not make mistakes. It is better to live in a country that is a desert with no water, no oil, no mineral, but that has justice, than to live in a land of plenty with injustice.

“When I came to Kano, people were smiling when they were mentioning Muslim–Muslim tickets. I said, don’t worry. Let the election finish. Time will come that if they were looking for two Muslims, they would not even get one,” he said.

Adebayo also condemned global conflicts, particularly the ongoing Israel–Iran war, saying that unfortunately, innocent people would be the major victims.

Adebayo said; “This is not a time in which some people can gather in a place and decide that they need to raise fire and brim storm for people who are in their country just observing the holy month”.
