The faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) led by Nyesom Wike, has given reasons why it officially endorsed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the 2027 presidential election.
The faction said its decision was predicated in the overall interest of Nigeria, national unity, stability, and development.
The party in a statement on Monday, declared that it was backing President Tinubu, the 2027 presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), for a second term, stressing that national interest should take precedence over partisan politics.
It further said that President Tinubu had demonstrated confidence in Chief Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), whose leadership had transformed Abuja through the execution of major infrastructure and development projects.
The party also noted the recent FCT Area Council elections, during which its candidates stepped down in support of the APC, arguing that the move was an example of political cooperation and patriotism.
It therefore insisted that the same approach should be extended to the 2027 general elections.
The Wike-led PDP said that it recognized the Tinubu-led administration’s economic reform agenda, and emphasised that despite the challenges and sacrifices associated with the policies, they are intended to build a stronger and more prosperous Nigeria.
Accordingly, it called on its members, supporters and other stakeholders nationwide to support the APC-led administration and work towards the re-election of President Tinubu in 2027.
The party particularly expressed appreciation to President Tinubu and Chief Wike for what it described as their commitment to national development and the ongoing transformation of the Federal Capital Territory.
The Wike-led PDP pledged an unalloyed support for President Tinubu’s mandate and prayed for Nigeria, the PDP and Wike.
