Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has appointed Justice Monica Dongban-Menson, President of the Court of Appeal as the President of the IBB International Golf Club, Abuja.

The Minister, who also reconstituted the Board of Trustees to steer the affairs of the elite organization, said the new board is to address the leadership crisis experienced within the club.

Wike, while inaugurating the new board of the IBB Golf Club in his official residence in Gwarinpa District (Life-Camp), expressed the FCT Administration’s commitment to restoring order and efficiency to the prestigious club.

In the words of Wike; “There has been crisis in the IBB Gulf Course and as the owner of that Golf Course, we cannot fold our hands and see things deteriorate.

“You must know that we are still the owners of the Golf Course. It is not privatized. Some of you have held the view that because government gave you Certificate of Occupancy (C of O) it means that the property belongs to you.

“No Government sets up agencies or universities and gives them up. Government gives them C-of- O to their land just to protect the property. But that does not mean that because we gave you C-of-O like University of Abuja – that the government does not own the University of Abuja.

“The FCT Administration has given C-of-O to, say Abuja Investment Company Limited, but it is still owned by the Administration”.

The FCT Minister commended the former Chairman and the members of the board for their efforts even as he expressed confidence in the new Chairman and the board to carry out the needed and expected change.

Wike assured the new Board of support in resolving all issues and tasked the new board on improvement of the club’s infrastructure and services, adding that the FCTA was ready to assist.

He further said; “Let it come back to what it used to be”.

In her remarks, Justice Dongban-Mensem expressed gratitude to the FCT Minister’s prompt action in addressing the challenges faced by the club.

Dongban-Mensem therefore stressed the importance of maintaining the club’s prestigious standing; highlighting its international significance, excellent facilities, and vast potentials.

Justice Dongban-Mensem also acknowledged the contributions of past leadership, particularly the former Chairman, General I.B.M. Haruna (rtd) for his dedication to the Club and pledged the readiness of her new led-board to work diligently with a view to uphold the club’s integrity.
