Wike Speaks On His Exit Date From Politics
Chief Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), said that Nigerians waiting for his political downfall may have to wait endlessly for his fall off the political stage.
Wike, who stated this through his Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media spokesman, Lere Olayinka, while responding to comments by the former governor of Ebonyi State, Senator Sam Egwu, declared that those waiting for Wike’s downfall would wait forever.
Egwu had in a statement on Tuesday, May 20, 2025 said that Wike was living on borrowed time, stressing that the influence of the former governor of Rivers State influence would soon burn out.
Wike through his aide also declared that Senator Samuel Anyanwu remains the National Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and there nothing anybody can do about it.
Olayinka noted that Wike’s political progress was based on personal hard work, dedication, commitment and most importantly, God’s grace.
He faulted Senator Egwu’s challenge to Wike to make it possible for the suspended governor of Rivers State, Sir Siminalayi Fubara to return to office.
Olayinka described allegations that Wike now wields and exercises the powers of President Bola Tinubu and the National Assembly in Rivers as absurd.
He said; “This type of statement should not come from a former lawmaker”.
Besides dismissing insinuations of Wike’s downfall, Olayinka, also dismissed the threats by a main caucus of the South East leaders of the PDP led by the Governor of Enugu State to withdraw their support for the party.
The spokesman to Wike noted that it was illogical for people who could not deliver anything substantial in terms of votes to the PDP in the 2023 elections to be threatening to withdraw their support for the party.
He said; “The PDP constitution is clear as to who is the National Secretary of the party. His name is Senator Samuel Anyanwu, and anyone saying or doing anything contrary is only interested in the collapse of the party”.
