The National Secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, has declared that the that the array of governors moving into the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), will not in any way guarantee victory for it in 2027.
Aregbesola, who was governor of Osun State and later Minister of Interior during the administration of late President Muhammadu Buhari, also said that with the levelof corruption taking place, biting hunger in the land, geometric inflation, spiral unemployment, insecurity, unnecessary and unwarranted taxation, among other vices, Nigerians would take their destiny in their hands and ensure that they vote for those that would rescue them from the APC shackles.
He particularly noted that the situation in the South East and South West geo-political zones in the 2023 election was a pointer to the fact that governors don’t guarantee election victory.
Aregbesola, who stated these at the launch of a book authored Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, National Publicity Secretary of the ADC, specifically stressed that recent statistics in Nigeria do not support the postulation that the governors will give APC victory at the polls.
The APC Scribe said; “I want the members to know that the last election in this country, and the results from that election, never support this particular belief.
“If the outcome of previous elections were anything to go by, the proclamation going on that APC is sure of victory in 2027 is not and cannot be true.
“There is this assertion going around which is worrisome, because those of us who are democrats, they said because 30 governors are supporting a party, and for that reason, that party is going to win the election.
“I will use the results from two zones. South West and South East to puncture this argument that governors define electoral victory for parties.
“Despite the overwhelming number of APC Governors in the South West in 2023, the party only had 55 per cent of the votes,” Aregbesola declared.
