Women Affairs Minister Disrupts Programme, Arrests Organiser For Impersonation
Nigeria’s Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development, Uju Kennedy-Ohanenye, on Thursday disrupted an event in Abuja, the nation’s capital, accusing the organisers of impersonating the Ministry.
The International Centre for Investigative Reporting (ICIR), uploaded a video on X showing the angry Minister explaining that the event organiser had been forewarned to put the event on hold but she bluntly refused to heed the advice.
Addressing participants and journalists, who were invited by the organizers, the Minister said; “I am standing here to explain this to everyone. She (organizer) has been arrested.
“She should have re-organized herself, used her name to make the invitation, and used her name to do this. Not to use the Federal Ministry of Women Affairs.
“I can’t allow this programme to go on because this is pure impersonation, and the President is not happy about it.”
Expressing her anger further, she said; “I am saying it, let the media cover and report it. I don’t care. You don’t do this. You don’t take the Ministry for granted. For what?”.
Details of the controversial programme were very sketchy, even as insiders hinted that it was to focus on women and food security in the country.
The inside sources further said the Women Ministry officials took offence that the event orgainser took them for granted and ignored existing protocol in packaging such a programme for public engagement.
