Southern Kaduna Peoples’ Union (SOKAPU) at the weekend accused Governor Nasir El-Rufai of taking side side in the current killings in Southern Kaduna, as he continued to blame the victims, while pampering the aggressors in the recurring conflict that has led to the killing of hundreds in the area.
A statement from SOKAPU National Public Relations Officer, Mr. Yakubu Kuzamani, said, “Money for the killers shackles for the victims! His one-sided fixation with demonizing the people of Southern Kaduna through his utterances and actions on the unprovoked attacks on our people have shown not only his hatred for us, but that he is a governor who has not weaned himself away from primordial, ethnic and religious sentiments, indeed a partisan umpire.
“This is why instead of going after the killers; he instead has been concentrating all his energy on apprehending youths of Southern Kaduna and having them paraded as ‘masterminds ‘of the attacks on our villages. Particularly, youths alleged to have demonstrated against the governor are still being arrested and swiftly transported to Abuja like hardened criminals.
“Those who also got fed up with the attacks on our villages and call for self-defense are now the targets of arrest.
“SOKAPU would want to tell the Governor that facts can be liberally twisted, arbitrary deployment of draconian powers to arrest all the people of Southern Kaduna may be resorted to, the people may be intimidated and smeared and lied against, our traditional and religious leaders disrespected and disparaged against, yet we shall still be standing when he finishes his term as Governor – no matter how long it takes him.
“We are however not too surprised by what is going on because of the governor’s antecedents. This is a governor who on the 9th of February, 2017 appeared into his favorite pastime demonizing the people of Southern Kaduna.
“This governor so loves denigrating the people of the zone, that he overreached himself on that programme by saying that Church lesders in Southern Kaduna are fueling the crisis because they are getting foreign dollars to bury Christians and rebuild thousands of Churches.
“This is coming from a governor that is expected to personify decorum statesmanship, impartiality and propriety in public office is, to say the least, difficult to rationalize.
“Also, it is difficult to understand why the governor went on air to falsely assert that some political and Church leaders in Southern Kaduna are fueling the crisis by insisting that only Southern Kaduna people should live in Southern Kaduna.
“This false assertion is not only preposterous but highly incendiary and a great hate speech against religious leaders in Southern Kaduna. This is infra dignitatem for the position of the governor.
“We will be standing tall, proud and still be peaceful and accommodating people we have always been. Truth never bows to falsehood.”
