A Chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Mr. Dominic Alancha, has cautioned the Party against rolling out the drum too soon in celebration ahead of the 2027 election, stressing that a possible alliance between former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and former Governor of Anambra State, Mr Peter Obi can spell doom for the chances of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election.
Alancha specifically said that taking into consideration the outcome of the 2023 presidential election and the dynamics at play ahead of 2027, a lot of surprises are at play and anything may happen.
Alancha, who stated these when he featured on Channels Television programme, ‘Politics Today’, pointedly said that if Atiku and Peter Obi agree to align and work out a consensus for a single ticket, it would completely deplete the support base of the APC.
He noted that taking into consideration of the fact the duo of Atiku and Peter Obi collectively garnered about 14 million votes compared to about eight million votes of President Tinubu in 2023, there would be a serious upheaval if the two come together and work against the APC.
Alancha also warned against a Muslim-Muslim ticket in 2027, stressing that such a political risk would present an easy campaign tool for the opposition as hunger and poverty have taken over the sentiments of religion.
According to Alancha; “If the Muslim-Muslim ticket is retained, it is going to pose a serious threat and would seriously deplete our support base”.
He also expressed concern over the rumoured return of former President Goodluck Jonathan, stressing that it is one of the major and serious political undercurrents in the North.”
In the words of Alancha; “Jonathan is waiting around the corner. Nobody should wave aside that issue because it is a serious one. President Bola Tinubu has to consider a different ticket”.
The APC chieftain said that it is not too early in the day to start preparing ahead of 2027, saying that preparation precedes manifestation, adding that if you’re not preparing to succeed, then you will be planning to fail.
“There may be quietness now, but when campaigns commence, there are going to be serious issues. If the ballot features Jonathan, Atiku, and Obi, a Muslim-Muslim ticket is not going to fly. We must have a balance on that ticket,” Alancha stressed.
