2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup: Oshoala Joins Barcelona
Ahead of the FIFA Women’s World Cup holding in France between June 7 and July 7, 2019, Super Falcons’ striker, Asisat Oshoala has signed loan deal with FC Barcelona of Spain
The Spanish giants said on Thursday that the Nigeria international will be in Camp Nou till the end of season.
Oshoala plies her trade for Dalian Quanjian in the Chinese Women’s Super League that is currently on break until after the World Cup in France.
Sources close to her agent hiinted that the loan deal was struck to enable the Super Falcons’ top striker fine-tuned and hone her skills for the June World Cup tournament.
Reports on Barca’s official website indicated that the 24-year-old completed her move after passing her medical, before signing her contract at the Camp Nou.
The report quoted Oshoala as saying on the club’s official handle that she was delighted to sign for one of the best recognised football brands globally.
According to her, “This is obviously one of the best clubs in the world. The team has a great history and wonderful football mentality.
“I am excited about playing with Vicky Losada again. She’s a great midfielder, with a lot of energy and skill. I also met Fabiana in China and she helped me to make this decision”.
“My goal is to strengthen the team and help them to win and make history. This is a fantastic opportunity because I’m sure something big will happen here.”
Oshoala, who is a three-time African Women’s Footballer of the Year, is expected provide an extra attacking option for Luis Cortes’ side that currently placed second in the Primera Division.
The Blaugranes are two points behind Atletico Madrid and six points above third-placed Levante on the league table.
Already, the Club has handed Jersey No. 20 to Oshoala and she is likely to make her debut on Sunday when Barcelona play host to Albacete.
