Late Emir Of Lafia’s Children Sent Out Of School Less Than One Month After His Demise
BY BABA AHMED LAFIA – Less than one month after his demise, no fewer than 27 out of the 58 children that were on the sponsorship of the late Emir of Lafia, Alhaji Isah Mustpha Agwai that are in schools across the country, are presently out of school over non-payment school fees.
The late emir, who died on January 17, 2019 barely a week after the resumption of second term in schools across the country, was sponsoring about 58 children mostly orphans in various schools both at home and abroad.
This is just as it was gathered that more of the children may likely to withdraw when the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), resume from their strike. Unfortunately, over 21 of the children on the sponsorship of the late emir are studying in various Universities across the Country might not be able pay their registration and fees.
Others studying in foreign Universities in Sudan, Niger, United Kingdom and Saudi Arabia are also likely to return home because of lack of sponsors.
Although the Emir has only two biological children namely Musa Isah Mustapha and Amina who are already in their late fourty’s, he was said to have taken the responsibility of sponsoring over 58 children in school owing to his magnanimity.
Palace sources Forefront News that the inner council of the emir had earlier met over the matter and promised to take action after seven days prayer but unfortunately could not go further beyond promise owing to the fact that the children were sponsored personally by the emir and not from the coffers of the palace.
Another source revealed that the Late emir used to give daily allowance to over 80 household in Agwan Kaura situated behind the palace who now find it difficult to feed.
The withdrawn children who are mostly in private Nursery, primary and secondary schools are presently at home with no hope of returning to school.
One of the parents, who spoke to this our correspondent said he doesn’t know what to do, as his son is one of the beneficiaries of the emir’s gesture and that late emir sponsored his son in Key Science Academy, Masaka and moved to Federal University, Lafia after the completion of his secondary education.
The Secretary of the Emirte Council, Mallam Hudu Mailafiya, who was in tears, said the emirate in
still in mourning mood and was therefore not in a position to comment.
