BY OKECHUKWU EMELEZIE, OWERRI – As the All Progressives Congress (APC) daily fastens its doors against Governor Rochas Okorocha’s son in-law, Uche Nwosu as the Party’s candidate for the 2019 governorship elections, the Imo State Chapter of Action Alliance (AA) says there is no accommodation for the embattled duo in its fold.
The AA has therefore not only disowned the two politicians but also distanced itself from their 2019 electoral ambition that continue to attract knocks from various segments of the political class and Imo electorate.
According to the fledgling party, though no one can deny that Governor Okorocha was a key player at the formative stage and formal conception of AA, neither he nor his son-in-law, Uche Nwosu are its members currently.
Speaking to newsmen after their meeting at Urualla, Ideato North Local Council Area of the state, Action Alliance’s State Publicity Secretary, Comrade Ifeanyi Okponwa-Eze, said the Party has no knowledge of rummoured overtures by Owelle Okorocha to make a return to the party he abandoned over 10 years ago.
He said there is no record to the effect that the Imo State Governor is seeking solace in AA to actualize his son in-law’s gubernatorial ambition.
“We want to be unequivocal on this issue. Governor Okorocha ceased being a member of AA, over 10 years ago”, he said.
Comrade Okponwa-Eze said though the party’s leadership cannot contest Governor Okorocha’s key role in giving birth to AA, “People must understand that party business is not a one man affair and can never be, no matter the power such a man arrogates to himself.”
Insisting that the party cannot be used as a ‘dump site’ or ‘waste yard’, the spokesman said the state Chapter remained committed to carrying out every directive from the National Working Committee (NWC) in all issues.
“AA is neither a dump site nor a waste yard. It is a party where power truly belongs to the masses. We are not ready to make AA a platform for the breeding of future emperors or render it vulnerable for contamination by emperor-like spirit”, he said.
Acknowledging that speculations on the return of the governor to the party has been everywhere within the state, Comrade Okponwa-Eze said directive came from the party’s National Chairman, Mr. Kenneth Udeze, that the state executive should embark on a tour of all the 27 local council areas in the state with a view to properly inform members on the true position of things.
