BY GLORIA USMAN, ABUJA – The presidential candidate of KOWA Party, Dr. Adesina Fagbenro-Byron has expressed serious concern over the high rate of unemployment in the country which he noted is in the ratio of about 30percent.

This is just as he said that Nigeria must demonstrate a new commitment to the development of women and youth demography with a view to educate, empower, motivate and improve their skills, capacity and knowledge sufficient to trigger their creativity and ensure that they are employable and capable of creating employment.

The presidential candidate, who stated these at a press conference on pre-campaign state of the nation media parley in Abuja, promised to run an inclusive government if elected into office in 2019 general elections..

Fagbenro-Byron also said Nigerians must draw on their rights of freedom of expression to lend their voices to issues of national concern and therefore called for a review of strategies for peace, improvement on intelligence gathering and early warning systems to ensure that policing and judicial services are supported to act fast and act fairly.

He equally called on the civil society groups and Faith based organisations to speak out and reach out when issues arise.

Fagbenro-Byron said Kowa Party will support any governor or government in any peace building and conflicts management processes that are in place to put a stop to sad tendencies.

On the recent Niger Delta flooding, the Kowa Party presidential candidate commended the federal government for the quick, personal and decisive intervention to ameliorate the plight of the victims.

He advised that a more structured and sustainable approach should be employed to prevent future occurrence, saying that otherwise, it will get worse as he year go by.

Fagbenro-Byron also stressed the need for the dredging of the Benue and Niger rivers to allow for free flow of water and marine vehicular movement, adding that there is the need to empower the Inland Water Way Agency (NIWA) to dredge smaller rivers or clear weeds and hyacinths from all the water ways;

According to him; “There is the need to complete Kashinbilla Dam to curtail the water over flowing from the lakdo dam in Cameron; the need to integrate flood control measures like drainages into urban planning; and clearing existing canals and drainages through sanitation.

“There is also the need for all states of the federation to make SDG 11, a priority which is about making cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable.”

Fagbenro-Byron appealed to Nigerians and the global press to spare more time in ensuring inclusive and basic coverage of the activities of all political parties.

He further said; “We also urge the press to help to reduce the attention given to hate speeches and ensure that the coming campaigns are largely issued based”.
