2019 Polls: Buhari Prays For Maiduguri Crashed Pavilion Victims

BY SEGUN ADEBAYO, ABUJA – President Muhammadu Buhari has expressed sadness over the tragic incident following the collapse of a pavilion at the massively-attended All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential campaign rally at Ramat Square, in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital on Monday

Many party supporters, struggling to catch a glimpse of the President and other speakers at the rally, had climbed atop roofs of the pavilions.

Unfortunately, one of the pavilions came crashing down, leaving some dead and many at the rally venue sustaining various degrees of injuries.

A statement by Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Malam Garba Shehu, in Abuja on Monday, expressed President Buhari’s sadness over the unfortunate incident.

The statement expressed Mr President’s deepest condolences to the families of those who lost their loved ones and prayed for the quick recovery of those injured in the incidence.

The statement said; “I am shocked to hear about the loss of lives following the tragic incident at the stadium this afternoon in Maiduguri. May Allah repose the souls of the deceased.

“I am shocked to hear about the many who suffered injury following the tragic incident at the stadium this afternoon in Maiduguri. May Allah heal all those that were injured.

“I understand that the Borno State government, the Red Cross and other aid agencies are taking steps to help affected people. May Allah heal the injured,” the statement said.

On Monday, President Buhari took his re-election campaigns to the North East States of Borno and Yobe where he soliciting for votes from the electorate in massively attended rallies that held in Maiduguri and Damaturu.

Addressing mammoth crowd of supporters at both venues, President Buhari pledged to continuously improve on the gains recorded in the security sector.

He assured the people that giving the APC-led administration a second term would provide him the opportunity to build on his administration’s achievements in the last three and a half years.

The President maintained that only the people of Borno and Yobe states are in a better position to assess his administration and determined its level of success in improving the nation’s security sector since the administration came on board in 2015.

He said despite mounting challenges, the APC-led administration was committed to building and sustaining a robust economy that would provide employment opportunities for all Nigerians and moving the country to the next level when re-elected on February 16, 2019.
