2020 Olympic Qualifier: Nigeria Daze Sudan 5-0 In 2nd Leg Fightback

Nigeria Under-23 National side lived up to expectation as they overwhelmed their Sudanese counterparts in the second leg of the CAF U-23 AFCON qualifier.

Ahead of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, the Nigerians were impressive in their 5-0 thrashing of Sudan inside the Stephen Keshi Stadium in Asaba, the Delta State capital on Tuesday.

The victory means Nigeria, who are the tournament defending champions, qualified for the 2019 U-23 AFCON in Egypt on a 5 – 1 aggregate.

The Coach Imama Amakpakobo-led team had lost the first leg 0 – 1 in Omdurman, the second largest city in Sudan

The encounter was quite a thriller for the home fans and Taiwo Awoniyi scored the first goal after just nine minutes of play, when he headed home a rebound.

Akwa United midfielder, Ndifreke Effiong doubled Nigeria’s lead on 26 minutes with a powerful header and completed his brace on the day just before half time.

Substitute Sunday Faleye extended the Olympic Eagles’  lead to 4-0 with almost his first touch of the ball while Sanusi Ibrahim slotted in the fifth and final goal for Nigeria. – Agency report
