BY VICTOR BUORO, ABUJA – President Muhammadu Buhari has warned members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) against actions capable of triggering the Party’s disintegration after the 2023 general elections.

This is as the APC’s National Executive Committee (NEC) has adopted recommendations of the National Caucus mandating the President as the Leader of the Party to urgently constitute a National Reconciliation Committee (NRC)

As a Standing Committee, the NRC will be empowered to address all grieviances of members and resolve existing conflicts, with a view to fostering unity and oneness within the ruling party.

This decision was one of the major highlights of the APC NEC meeting held on Friday at the Party’s National Secretariat in Abuja.

Addressing the meeting, President Buhari also dismissed insinuations about a so-called third term agenda, declaring that he has sworn to uphold the Constitution, which provides for two terms only.

According to him, besides age which is no longer on his side, he will not embark on any exercise that seeks to grossly abuse the constitution that he swore to uphold as a democratically elected President.

He equally challenged all APC members, leaders and elected officials at all levels to reposition themselves in their respective constituencies towards sustaining the administration’s landmark legacies beyond 2023.

President Buhari warned that history will not be kind to members if the APC collapses after his second term, adding that history will only be fair to the party if it remains strong and not only hold the centre but make further gains across the country.

He urged all APC members to not only be acquainted with the party’s constitution but also abide by the provisions and ensure they do not take the trust of their constituents for granted.

A statement by the APC’s National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu said President Buhari further tasked the nation’s elite to search their conscience whether they have been fair to the people, having watched in silence how the 16-years inglorious reign of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) frittered away the country’s resources

The President however assured that the APC-led Federal Government would not relent in providing the enabling environment for Nigerians to thrive by continuously investing massively in the country’s infrastructural renewal in the road, rail and power sectors.

In his remarks, the APC National Chairman, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole gave a scorecard of the Party’s performances after the 2019 elections in which the party won the presidential election, majority of the governorship polls as well as National and State Assembly seats nationwide.

Comrade Oshiomhole also used the opportunity to congratulate members on the Party’s victory in the recently held governorship elections in Bayelsa and Kogi states.
