BY SEGUN ADEBAYO – The Appeal Court sitting in Sokoto has upheld the Election Petition Tribunal (EPT)’s ruling affirming the election of Aminu Tambuwal of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as the validly elected governor of the state.

Delivering its judgement on Friday, November 22, Chairman of the Appeal panel, Justice Hussaini Mukhtar, dismissed all the six grounds of appeal filed by the All Progressives Congress (APC) and its governorship candidate, Alhaji Ahmad Aliyu.

In finally dismissing the case as lacking in merit, the Appellate court also dismissed the PDP’s cross-appeal, challenging the APC candidate’s qualification to contest the election.

The Election Petition Tribunal had, in a unanimous judgement on October 2, 2019, dismissed the petition filed by the APC and its gubernatorial candidate, Aliyu, challenging the governor’s victory at the March 9 and March 22, 2019 election and supplementary poll respectively.

The Tribunal, led by Justice Bawale Abdullahi, held that the petitioners failed to adduce credible evidence to prove their case beyond reasonable doubt.
