A former governor of Kano State, Senator Ibrahim Shekarau has counselled Nigerians against making the mistake of assessing the strength, acceptability and popularity of candidates based on the crowd that usually gathered at political campaign rallies.

Shekarau, who was also the Minister of Education and current Senator representing Kano Central Senatorial district, said anyone that allowed him/herself to be carried away by the size of a crowd at rally would get easily disappointed when the votes are counted after election.

The federal legislator, who stated these during an interactive session with the media on Tuesday in Kano, noted that mathematical analysis over crowd gathered by politicians at campaign rallies do not represent the reality on ground thus, a far cry from the results of elections.

In the words of Shekarau; “Let nobody be carried away by any large crowd or use it to judge the popularity of a candidate. We have seen many candidates in the past pulling heavy crowd but at the end of the day, they were defeated at the polls”.

Commenting on the scheduled Saturday, February 25, 2023 Presidential Election, Shekarau said that the Presidential Candidate of his Party, the PDP, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar has five major priority areas to tackle when elected as President of Nigeria.

According to him; “The priorities are unity of the country, adequate security of lives and property of citizens, structure of governance, education and economy”.

The former Kano State governor said the PDP was ready for the elections adding that its members do not clash with other parties during campaigns.

Shekarau further said; “PDP has candidates in all positions being contested across the country. The Leadership of the Party is working tirelessly to ensure a hitch-free election”.

He therefore appealed to the hierarchy of the Nigeria Police not to allow any breakdown of law and order.

Chieftains of the PDP that attended the media interactive session included, Amb. Aminu Wali, former Military Administrator of Niger State, Col. Habibu Shuaibu (rtd) and the Governorship Candidate of the PDP for Kano State, Sadiq Wali.
