BY ONYEKACHUKWU IBEZIM – Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State has assured that Nigerians will not wait for long to know the G-5 Governors’ presidential candidate for the February 25 election.

He said ongoing engagements with his political allies are nearing conclusion and shortly, the name and the party of the chosen Standard flag-bearer to enjoy their support will be made public

Speaking at St. Martin’s Anglican Church in Omagwa Town, which hosted the Ikwerre Local Government Area campaign flag-off for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Rivers State chapter, the governor said happily, there will be no room for any form of electoral manipulation and intimidation from security personnel in the forthcoming election

Governor Wike urged the party supporters and electorate in Rivers state to brace up for the polls, assuring them that; “This time, no army will do anything. No Fakorode will do any thing. No police will do anything. Now, it is one man, one vote.

“All the votes must be in one basket from the governorship to the House of Assembly. The other one we are concluding. When we conclude, you will be told. Nobody should intimidate you. Nobody should tell you any story. We are free-born in this country. We are not second-class citizens. Nobody can tell us anything.”

Further indicating that the G-5 Governors are not ready to retreat in their course of action as the election approaches, the Rivers State Chief Executive said; “I dare them. Let anybody do any funny thing, We’ll tell them we are from Rivers State. As we finish from here now, you’ll go home and start working before the appropriate time when we will ring the bell.”

“When you hear the bell ringing, know that the decision has been taken”, Governor Wike said, maintaining that the Consolidation Team, to be headed by the PDP governorship candidate, Sir Siminialayi Fubara, will be banking on the successes of his administration as they campaign in the field.

The Governor, who encouraged the people to support and elect the ‘Consolidation Team’ to continue from where he will stop, said all the promises made to the people of Ikwerre Local Government in 2015 and 2019 during the electioneering campaigns have been fulfilled with visible development projects evenly distributed in all 13 political wards.

Describing members of the ‘Consolidation Team’ as men and women with the capacity to continue driving good governance and leadership in Rivers state, Governor Wike assured the people that the team will certainly not disappoint them when voted into office in this year’s elections.

In his speech at the campaign rally, the PDP gubernatorial flag-bearer in Rivers State, Sir Siminialayi Fubara said as part of the current administration that has provided good governance and driven remarkable infrastructural development agenda in the State, voting for him means an expression of confidence in Governor Wike’s performance.

He said the incoming administration intends to consolidate on the achievements when elected, further assuring the people that the few remaining roads in Ikwerre local government will be done with upgraded and improved health services available to them.

On security, the Governor candidate stated that the days of kidnapping activities in Elele, using Ubima forest as their hideout were over, adding; “Today, we have been able to smoke those criminals out and you have peace in the various communities.”

Also addressing the rally, the Director General of Rivers PDP Campaign Council, Felix Obuah, said given Governor Wike’s impressive performance in office over the last seven and a half years, supporting Sir Siminialayi Fubara and other PDP candidates in the coming polls will ensure consolidation of the achievements.

In his remarks, the Rivers State PDP Chairman, Ambassador Desmond Akawor described Governor Wike as a true leader of the people and emancipator of the downtrodden.

He later presented PDP flags to all the candidates vying for various positions in the Rivers East Senatorial District.
