2023 Polls: Igbo Community Denies Endorsing PDP In C-River

BY UBON EKANEM, CALABAR – The Igbo Community in Cross River State has distanced itself from the purported endorsement of a political organisation as their preferred party for the 2023 general elections in the state.

President General of the Igbo Community in the state, Barrister Kingsley Kalu, who stated this position in Calabar, the State capital, said at no time did the apex body of Ndigbos, known as Ohaneze Ndigbo, or the Igbo Community Association mandate anybody to solicit, negotiate or endorse any political party on their behalf for the forthcoming polls.

In a statement made available to newsmen, Barr Kalu said though members are constitutionally free to support and work for any political party of their choice, the image of both organisations should not be dragged into such personal arrangements.

According to him, as non-partisan socio-cultural organisations, both the Ohanaeze Ndigbo and the Igbo Community Association would not fold their arms and allow anyone to drag their good names into the mud because of selfish and pecuniary interests.

The President General said while their doors are open to all political parties to negotiate and solicit support, such an approach should follow laid-down procedures instead of doing so through the back door.

Forefront News gathered that some self-styled Igbo leaders had on January 14, 2023, paid a courtesy call on the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) gubernatorial candidate to support of the Igbo Community in the state.
