- To drive change with innovative startups empowerment
The Nigeria Sovereign Investment Authority (NSIA) says the hunt for Nigeria’s next top innovators is on with the official launch of the fourth edition of its flagship entrepreneurship initiative that offers a offering a $275,000 grant pool to ambitious startups driving solutions in manufacturing, healthcare, and climate and food security
The fully-funded NPI 4.0 entrepreneurial training with the theme: ‘Building for Impact’, is designed to identify and support venture-backable enterprises through grant funding, capacity building, mentorship and strategic partnerships to help scale innovative solutions that address Nigeria’s development challenges.
NSIA spokesperson, Joyce Onyegbula, who announced the application flag-off in a statement, said the initiative has evolved into one of Nigeria’s leading platforms for entrepreneurship development and innovation support, adding that the first three editions attracted more than 20,000 applications from startups across all six geopolitical zones, spanning sectors such as fintech, agritech, health technology, education technology, transport and logistics.
According to the statement, the strong response underscores the resilience of Nigeria’s entrepreneurial ecosystem and the determination of innovators to develop solutions that create jobs, strengthen industries and contribute to sustainable development, even as the NSIA focuses its commitment on supporting innovation and startups operating within Manufacturing, Climate and Food Security, and Healthcare.
Onyegbula explained that through this targeted approach, the programme would not only empower founders whose solutions can strengthen productive capacity, improve health outcomes, enhance food systems, promote environmental sustainability, and advance climate resilient solutions but also consolidate NSIA’s efforts at repositioning Nigerian innovators for enhanced relevance.
She said building on the success of prior editions, NPI 4.0 delivers enhanced opportunities for Nigerian startups through strategic partnerships and comprehensive support with this year’s edition featuring a $275,000 prize pool, jointly funded by the NSIA ($220,000), Cascador ($45,000), and Wema Bank ($10,000), noting that this development highlights a shared commitment to empowering entrepreneurs and scaling innovative businesses that create measurable social impact.
The Authority Spokesperson further said the prize money aside, the NPI 4.0 serves as a robust growth platform to empowers Nigerian founders by unlocking vital access to capital, expert mentorship, and the strategic networks necessary to transform promising concepts into scalable enterprises.
For Onyegbula, “A major highlight of this year’s programme is the opportunity for winners to secure up to $1.5 million in funding through Pula Xcelerator, providing access to the growth capital required to accelerate expansion, strengthen operations, and scale impact,” while winners would stand a chance to participate in the Grand Finale of the Wema Bank Hackaholics, where they can compete for a share of N100 million in equity-free grants, creating further opportunities to access funding, visibility, strategic partnerships, and market exposure.
Additionally, the winners would also benefit from a fully-funded programme at the Enterprise Development Centre (EDC), Lagos, with practical training in business strategy, leadership, governance, financial management, market expansion, and investor readiness, given that the programme is packaged to equip founders with the skills and capabilities required to build resilient, investment-ready, and high-growth enterprises.
The NSIA Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Aminu Umar-Sadiq, while highlighting the unique significance of NPI 4.0, said, “Across Nigeria, entrepreneurs are building solutions with the potential to transform industries, improve livelihoods, and address some of our most pressing development challenges. Through the NSIA Prize for Innovation, we are creating opportunities for these innovators to access the funding, training, mentorship, and strategic partnerships they need to scale their ideas into sustainable businesses.
“The enhancements introduced in NPI 4.0 reflect our continued commitment to support founders who are leveraging innovation to shape the future of Nigeria’s economy.”
