2023 Polls: New Ministers Coming Immediately – Buhari

  • As 10 Ministers bid farewell to FEC

BY EDMOND ODOK – President Muhammadu Buhari has promised to immediately appoint new faces to replace outgoing members of the Federal Executive Council (FEC) to ensure ongoing government’s processes are not disrupted.

He made the appointment “without delay” pledge on Friday while bidding formal farewell to members of his cabinet seeking the All Progressives Congress (APC)’s tickets to contest the 2023 general elections.

A valedictory session held at the Council Chambers in Abuja in honour of the departing Ministers saw the President expressing his gratitude and thanking them for their time and service to the nation

He however urged those remaining in the cabinet to be more diligent and committed to the success of the administration as it negotiate the final lap heading towards the May 28, 2023 terminal date.

The session is coming about 72-hours head of the Monday, May 26, 2022 deadline contained in the official government memo to the Ministers and other government appointees seeking elective positions to quit office to avoid conflict of interest.

Making the list of outgoing FEC members are the Niger Delta Minister, Sen Godswill Akapbio, Minister of Transportation, Rt Hon Rotimi Amaechi; Minister of Justice and Attorney General of the Federal, Abubakar Malami (SAN); and Minister of State for Education, Chukwuemeka Nwajiuba

Others include; Minister of Labour and Employment, Senator Chris Ngige; Minister of State Petroleum, Timiprey Sylva; Minister of Science and Technology, Dr Ogbonnaya Onu; Minister of Women Affairs, Dame Pauline Tallen, Minister of State Niger Delta, Tayo Alasoadua; and Minister of State Mines and Steels, Hon Uche Ogah.

The Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, who briefed journalists after the session hinted that some of the Ministers have already tendered their resignation letters while the others were in the process of doing so.
