BY SEGUN ADEBAYO – After several months of unbending political posturing and name-calling, cheering news seems to be on the horizon for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) with its presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar expressing his resolve to address the lingering quarrel with the five aggrieved governors in the nation’s main opposition party.

Atiku dropped the hint on Friday after indications emerged that the Governor Nyesom Wike-led group has decided to soft-pedal on their demands for the resolution of the crisis rocking the party.

The Rivers State Governor had during the aggrieved governors’ visit to Bauchi State earlier this week said they were still open to settling the matter if the party hierarchy is willing to do the needful by correcting the obvious anomaly in the Party’s leadership structure.

However, according to a statement issued by Paul Ibe, the media adviser to the presidential candidate, the Wazirin Adamawa is quite receptive to reports that the Governor Wike-led group is favourably disposed to resolving all outstanding issues with the PDP candidate and the Party’s leadership.

It said; “Atiku Abubakar also expresses his commitment to a negotiation that will resolve the crisis of confidence and pave the way for a much stronger and united PDP.

“The former Vice President of Nigeria, notes that never at any time of the differences that have ensued have the doors been shut to Governor Wike and his group.

“He enjoins every leader of the party and their supporters irrespective of their leanings to be open-minded and support the process of resolution of the extant issues.”

Aside from Governor Wike, the aggrieved group of governors has as its Leader, Samuel Ortom of Benue State, and Seyi Makinde of Oyo State. Others are Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia State and Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State.

Consistently, the concerned governors have insisted that they are protesting the obvious inequity and unfair treatment against the south in the PDP’s hierarchy.
