BY SEGUN ADEBAYO – Determined to resolve the lingering crisis within the Ogun State Council of the Nigeria Union Journalists (NUJ), the National Executive Council (NEC) of the Union has announced the immediate dissolution of the State Caretaker Committee.

The Caretaker Committee, inaugurated about two years ago, was charged with the responsibility of ensuring that peace return to the NUJ Ogun State Council.

Consequently, the NEC has directed Chairmen and Secretaries of Chapels in the Council to take over the Union’s leadership as contained in Article 5C, section (9)(c) of the NUJ constitution

Furthermore, an independent electoral body, comprising three members from the Zone, has been inaugurated to conduct election into the State Council’s offices within one month.

The decision was reached at the just-concluded NEC meeting held in Benin, the Edo State capital.

This follows recommendations by the Southwest leaders of the Union led by the NUJ Vice President, Comrade Ronke Afebioye Samo.

In arriving at the decision, the NEC noted that aside from over staying its welcome, the dissolved Caretaker Committee not only failed to achieve its mandate but also demonstrated lack of capacity to deliver on the assignment.

Meanwhile, the NEC listed the three-member independent Electoral Committee as; Chairman of Oyo State Council, Demola Babalola; Chairman of Lagos State Council, Adeleye Ajayi and Secretary of Ekiti State Council, Kayode Babatuyi
