2023 Presidency: Don’t Worry, You’ll Be A Fine Loser, Ganduje Teases Wike
BY SEGUN ADEBAYO – As aspirants traverse the country preparatory to their political parties’ presidential primaries, the Governor of Kano State, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has teased his Rivers State counterpart, Nyesom Wike, as a fine loser whose interest in the 2023 presidential race will come to naught.
Speaking when he received Governor Wike at the Government House in Kano, Governor Ganduje said; “I have listened to your speech across the country and I said: ‘This Wike is not wicked, but this Wike is wise’.”
“So, you have come to see your brothers and sisters. Good. You are aspiring for the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. We see your efforts. And at the end of it, you would lose, but you will be a good loser.
“I appreciate good losers because they have courage and since you are doing it peacefully, you will live long to fight again. In a democracy, if we all belong to one party, then there is no democracy and I foresee good efforts in your presidential bid. You will lose, but you will be a good loser and live to fight a good fight.”
Ganduje said the country’s diversity should be an advantage, adding that every person has the responsibility of driving change.
The Kano Governor, who noted that his Rivers counterpart has demonstrated belief in a united Nigeria, said; “Party differences should not make us stupid. Our diversity is an advantage, even though we failed to utilise our diversity. Each one of us must try in his own bid to change the status quo.”
Governor Wike had hinted that he would have withdrawn abandon his 2023 presidential ambition if Ganduje was also in the race to salvage Nigeria.
The Rivers Chief Executive also appealed to the elite to work for the country’s unity irrespective of party differences, adding that in desperate situations, tough and disciplined men are needed to lead the country.
Maintaining that he has the wherewithal to champion the course, Governor Wike said; “There is no gainsaying that the country is not having it right, and there should be a desperate effort to save the nation, and by which I’m out to right the wrongs.
“Nigeria from wherever you choose to look at it, our great country Nigeria is bleeding, and certainly requires the collective efforts to recover its soul.”
